#1 Connecting and Engaging Neighbors and Partners

Research indicates that social indicators like these listed on the Flourishing Neighborhood Index wheel (resource provided by The Lupton Center) are leading indicators of healthy and flourishing neighborhoods. Link has experienced this in its history.  Many of the current partnerships involved in the economic and structural indicators have been a result of good neighboring and building a strong social fabric within the neighborhood.  As many new residents move into Walnut, Link will continue to prioritize and support connecting and engaging neighbors and partners in the neighborhood.

A few ways to connect with the neighborhood include getting involved with Walnut Neighborhood Association, helping with the Link Youth Leadership Team, joining the 415 Collective, and applying for microgrants.

#2 Ongoing Holistic Neighborhood Development

In 2022, our partner, Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity, hired The Lupton Center to consult with the Walnut Neighborhood in its ongoing work of holistic neighborhood development.  After several surveys were taken by neighborhood residents, the Lupton Center is now consulting with the neighborhood to create a comprehensive plan and to prioritize next steps in cultivating a flourishing community.

Link will work with neighbors and partners to guide strategy, set goals, and mobilize community resources to bring action to the comprehensive plan for the Walnut Neighborhood.

#3 Listening and Learning Together

Link is committed to bringing people together to listen and learn and to seek a better understanding of others and ourselves.  Link seeks to affirm each person’s dignity and is committed to healing and the wholistic (historical, spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional) journey of individuals and communities.
